My First Driving Test!

Just gone through my 1st driving test yesterday morning (8th Sep 2007) at 10:15am & I failed. Got a total of 42 demerit points. I cannot believe it!

For the past 3 days, I have my driving lessons all in a row after my work. My instructor even extended my practice hours for me so that I can practice more. Everything was smoothly done during my lessons & my instructor even told me to maintain my standard if I hope to pass the test. I was very confident that I will pass my 1st driving test in my life. I even gone to the Guang Yin Temple last week with my friends to pray for my driving test.

Everything don't seem to work on the actual day. Heavy rain started to pour early in the morning & I was supposed to meet my instructor at Bt. Gombak MRT to do my last practice. I took a cab to the MRT station & the cab driver was giving me all the good tips for passing the test & even wishes me all the best for my test! I was a bit nervous but I still manage to control it.

I have 2 full hours of practice with my instructor before I submitted my PDL & IC for the test at the counter. I was told to wait outside the tester room. I was still very calm & relax. During the balloting, my name was the 1st one to be called & I was assigned to this tester (Mr. Yik Hoong Kei) & Test Road Nos. 2! The strange thing I noticed was I realised that there was a "RED DOT" besides this tester of mine! I was telling myself, the red dot either indicate that this tester is either a super good or super bad tester. I was starting to panic.

Eventually, I saw a few tester started to enter the room & I saw his name tag (Mr.Yik H.K) & he look very unfriendly & cold. I told myself I am dead this time! I tried to stay calm. I opened the door for him & even waved at him when I boarded my car to let him know where am I.

He got into the car & I started to adjust my mirror as what everyone supposed to do! Then He speak! He told me to do my E-Brake when he slam this folder. So I started off smoothly & very soon he slammed his folder & I quickly do an E-Brake! Then I moved off again! Then he told me to change to the right lane & make a RIGHT turn to number 3 so I did what he said. He then asked me to make a LEFT turn to number 38 & asked me to do my parallel parking. Everything was smoothly done but he was a bit of perfectionist. He told me,"Your car is a bit slant, can you try to make it straight?" So I did! I told myself, this fellow is not an easy fellow to please. Then he asked me to make a LEFT turn to number 2 to do the S-course. This was an easy one for me. Out from the S-course he asked me to make a LEFT turn again to number 3 & go straight & keep RIGHT to the Cross Junction then I make a RIGHT turn to number 23 to do my 3 points turn.

After that he asked me to make a LEFT turn to number 24 to do my Vertical Parking. While I was making a LEFT turn to number 24, he told me, "quick no car, turn turn!!" So I did & my car strike the kerb, so I told him, " Sir, I think I kena the kerb." He replied,"Wow, you never mount kerb, you only strike the kerb, never mind, reverse & continue." I was like very unhappy & worry because I remember that my friend told me that it will be immediate failure if you mount the kerb. So I have to calm myself down & said sorry to him. Hai... ... So proceed to do my VP. After the VP, he told me to make a LEFT turn to number 28 (Ramp) so while I was doing the LEFT turn, he told me, why did y0u turn LEFT? I blurr & I told him,"You asked me to." Then he replied," never mind, carry on!" As if it was all my fault. At this moment, I was very disheartened already. But I still did the ramp perfectly well. Then he asked me to turn LEFT to number 7 (slope). So I have to signal LEFT & stop my car & pull my handbrake then signal RIGHT, step on the accelerator & release the handbrake slowly. So the car started to move up the slope slowly. Then he commented,"you never check left & right before you move off arh?" Wow, I feel like telling him, "I have no mood liao."

So we move down from the slope, I was instructed to turn toward number 26 and go straight. While I was approaching the junction where I need to stop my car to look out for on-moving vehicles. There were so many vehicles moving in front of me so I waited. Then he commented," Wow, you take so long to move off." I really don't know what to say! I do not know whether is he blind or what? So then we move off & heading to the main road. Before existing to the main road, there was a zebra crossing & someone was about to cross the road, so I slow down my vehicle & come to a stop. He commented," Why you slow down & why you stop?" I was very frustrated & very angry but I keep calm. So we exited to the main road & did my Test Road 2. Everything was fine but I keep telling myself. I going to fail already. I am going to give up.

So we drove back to BBDC & I just parked my car near the entrance & follow him up to the tester room. He commented,"You always never check your blind spots & you always any how turn! Some more you have no confident. So is this your 1st test?" I replied,"Yes." He replied,"Never mind lah, you come back for the test again okie? Go & practice more. Bye!" Then he scribbled 42 for my demerit points! I was very angry! 42 demerit points!!! As if I drove my vehicle into an accident just now! I was speechless!

So I came out & I called my instructor. He was blurr like me! "You failed with 42 demerit points? How can it be?" He was very sad for me & cursed the tester! He quickly helped me to book my test date again & I can only managed to book the test on January 2008 next year. Anyway he said he will help me to change to an earlier date if possible for me. Hai... ...

That's my 1st driving test experience! Now I believe it was all your luck no matter how well you can drive during your normal lessons. If you get a tester like mine, you better get prepare to book your next test date!

Hi, I happened to have my TP test ytd and I got this same tester, AND I FAILED WITH 34 points too, when I felt that I really could have passed, or at least fail with like maybe 20 plus points but not 34(which is insanely alot).
Sigh...even my instructor said I could do it.
